Trump Proposes Switzerland as Venue for Potential Iran Peace Deal

US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to reach and sign a potential peace agreement with Iran in Switzerland, should diplomatic efforts succeed in securing the deal, amidst escalating military tensions between the two countries. Trump's statements came during a television interview conducted with him on Thursday, coinciding with the peak of tensions between Washington and Tehran reaching their highest levels in weeks. In a related development, US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed the existence of open negotiation channels with Tehran's political leadership, in addition to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. Earlier this week, the US military launched airstrikes against Iranian targets for the second consecutive day, asserting that these actions were in response to what it described as "ongoing and unjustified Iranian aggression." The US Central Command (CENTCOM) also stated in a communiqué that its forces carried out additional defensive strikes targeting multiple locations inside Iran, acting under the directives of President Trump. The US President further declared on Thursday that the United States would launch a "very severe" strike against Iran tonight, and would "seize Iranian oil and gas markets, similar to what occurred with Venezuela."
