Trump Declares New Iranian Leader Likely Deceased, Renews Sanctions on Tehran
President Donald Trump stated there is a high probability, 90%, that the new Iranian leader is no longer alive. He added in an interview with Fox News that "Iran has no chance to rebuild its military capabilities." In a new escalation of confrontation with Tehran, Trump announced the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran and revealed a plan to make the United States "the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz." Trump declared via his Truth Social platform: "We are reinstating the blockade on Iran, which only prevents Iranian ships or agents from entering or exiting. Other nations, however, will enjoy fair and equal access to the Strait." He also clarified that the United States would receive a 20% compensation on all shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
