US President Donald Trump strongly criticized the Nobel Peace Prize, stating it was awarded to a "mysterious person" who is an obscure UN employee who achieved nothing, adding that the awarding committee has ruined its reputation. During a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, to support the Republican candidate for governor, Trump criticized the entire awarding process, calling it an indelible stain on Norway and those who made this shameful decision, asserting that the prize has lost its credibility forever due to a small group of radical ideologues. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump renewed his criticism of awarding the prize to Pillay, describing her as a mysterious person no one has heard of, and saying she clearly hates Israel. He insisted he deserved the prize for eight wars and is close to ending or winning two more regarding Iran and Russia/Ukraine, while she did not end any war, considering himself more deserving than anyone else for stopping wars and achieving milestones. Trump concluded by emphasizing that Norway's decision represents an indelible stain and that the prize has lost its credibility forever due to radical ideologues who are enemies of civilization. Previously, the Nobel Committee in Oslo had announced that the 2026 Peace Prize would be awarded to former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, in recognition of her efforts to promote peace and international law.
