Trade Ministry Confirms Food Basket Stock Sufficiency And Competitive Commodity Prices Regionally

The Ministry of Trade confirmed on Tuesday that it maintains a strategic food basket reserve sufficient for distributing three full rations to citizens, noting that domestic market prices remain lower and more favorable compared to several neighboring Arab countries. Lama Al-Mousawi, Director General of the General Company for Food Trading at the ministry, stated in an official announcement that the relevant teams have finalized all procedural and precautionary measures to secure the supply of commodity items. She emphasized that market evaluations demonstrate reasonable local prices relative to regional peers, urging commentators to rely on verified indicators and accurate data when issuing statements regarding food security and domestic market conditions. Al-Mousawi called for coordinated efforts among relevant government entities to support vulnerable groups and low-income families, explaining that rising food costs severely impact the poor, which demands proactive interventions to reduce financial burdens and safeguard livelihoods. Furthermore, she highlighted the necessity of accurately identifying economic challenges to implement appropriate solutions, warning that certain traders exploit crises by prematurely hiking prices, thereby worsening hardships for citizens, particularly the most impoverished segments requiring continuous support.
