Syrian Customs Thwart Large-Scale Cigarette Smuggling Attempts via Al-Tanf Crossing from Iraq
The Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs announced the thwarting of multiple attempts to smuggle large quantities of cigarettes through the Al-Tanf border crossing, originating from Iraqi territory. The Authority explained that customs officers at the port, over the past days, successfully foiled several attempts to smuggle massive amounts of tobacco, which were hidden inside trucks and tankers. It stated that these seizures were a result of diligent follow-up, intensive inspection operations, and the exceptional efforts exerted by customs personnel at the crossing. This action comes within the framework of combating smuggling, protecting the national economy, and ensuring the entry of goods in accordance with existing regulations and laws. The necessary customs records were organized against the violators, and appropriate legal measures were taken.
