The Supreme Judicial Council confirmed on Wednesday that safeguarding constitutional freedoms and rights is the essence of a democratic state and a pillar of the rule of law. A Council statement for International Democracy Day explained that ensuring the exercise and preservation of these rights forms democracy's foundation, with the judiciary guaranteeing their protection. The Council also stressed that freedom of opinion, expression, and respect for diversity are rights guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution. It affirmed these must be exercised while preserving others' rights and dignity, avoiding infringement or abuse of communities, religions, sects, or beliefs. This aims to solidify freedom, justice, and the rule of law, fostering social peace.
