Southern Refineries Announces Daily Gasoline Output of 6,000 Cubic Meters, Adopts Land Routes for Oil Surplus Exports

The Southern Refineries Company announced on Sunday that its daily gasoline production has reached 6,000 cubic meters, noting the adoption of land routes for exporting surplus oil, in coordination with the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO). Hussam Hussein Wali, Director General of the Southern Refineries Company, clarified that the company continues to produce approximately 250,000 barrels per day of petroleum derivatives, assuring full supply to the local market. Wali indicated that recent events in the Arabian Gulf region solely impacted the export of surplus fuel oil and naphtha, not gasoline. He added that the three operational production units contribute to the daily gasoline output, securing local market needs and maintaining stability. Wali pointed out that while Basra refinery's design capacity is 280,000 barrels per day, high summer temperatures necessitated reducing operating rates to approximately 250,000 barrels per day to preserve unit stability and efficiency. Wali reported that military events in the Gulf affected surplus fuel oil and naphtha export operations via Khor Al-Zubair port. Consequently, the company, in coordination with SOMO, adopted northern land routes for exporting some quantities, despite their lower capacities compared to the port. He mentioned the refinery currently operates three units at about 180,000 barrels per day. A fourth unit is activated for increased surplus disposal, boosting operational capacity to around 250,000 barrels daily. Wali also revealed recent imports of gasoline and gas oil due to a unit shutdown and inventory drop, affirming the local market's stability and secured needs through local production and imports.
