Prime Minister Stresses Expediting Crucial Legislation in Parliament

Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed on Sunday the necessity of expediting the approval of vital draft laws presented before parliament. This came during his reception of a delegation from Ishraqat Kanun, including its political office and parliamentary bloc, led by its Secretary-General Yasser Majid Al-Nasrallah, according to a statement from his media office. During the meeting, Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of the legislative and oversight role of the Council of Representatives in supporting government work. He highlighted the need to accelerate the approval of several draft laws, most notably the Internal Oversight Authority Bill and other legislation. He also praised the performance of the Ishraqat Kanun bloc and its role in various fields. Al-Zaidi reviewed the government's directions within its program to address various service and economic files, particularly in housing, electricity, and the establishment of economic cities, with the aim of improving services, supporting development, and providing job opportunities. He clarified the government's interest in developing the tax and customs systems through the automation of procedures and the updating of work mechanisms. He also noted the adoption of a pre-deduction mechanism starting from early October, which will enhance financial management efficiency and increase non-oil revenues. For their part, the Ishraqat Kanun delegation expressed their support for the Prime Minister's efforts and the government's measures in combating corruption and strengthening Iraq's sovereignty. The delegation affirmed the importance of activating the preventive aspect and improving institutional performance, expressing their readiness to adopt the Internal Oversight Authority Bill and enhance cooperation and coordination between the Council of Representatives and oversight bodies.
