Prime Minister Directs Boosting Oil Production in Kurdistan and Developing Iraq's Energy Sector

Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, on Tuesday, directed an increase in oil production from fields in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This came during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister with senior Ministry of Oil staff, attended by the Ministers of Finance and Oil, and several advisors. The meeting focused on Iraq's strategic plan for oil development and production increase from 2027 to 2030. Al-Zaidi reviewed the plan's details, previously mandated by him, highlighting its programs to enhance the oil sector, raise production capacities, and strengthen export capabilities. Al-Zaidi stressed that Iraq's oil output must align with its reserves, capacities, and population to meet citizens' needs and development demands. He emphasized developing and upgrading infrastructure and export capacities to accommodate anticipated production increases. He also directed the full utilization of associated gas to fulfill local energy needs, minimize waste, and eliminate imports. The Prime Minister further called for expanding exploration activities and areas in Kurdistan's oil fields, targeting approximately 10 million barrels per day in oil production by 2030. Additionally, he instructed the Ministry of Oil to organize a major conference inviting leading international oil companies. This aims to attract global investments, expertise, and technologies, securing contracts for exploration, production, development, and export projects, thereby bolstering Iraq's global energy market position and supporting its economic resources.
