Potential punishment faces Cristiano Ronaldo after sudden departure from Portugal national team camp
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo faces the possibility of disciplinary action after leaving his national team's training camp in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, following a press conference held by coach Jorge Jesus. The disciplinary regulations of the Portuguese Football Federation stipulate that any player who is officially called up to the national team and subsequently leaves or is absent without justification from training sessions, matches, or any activity related to the team, may face a suspension ranging from one to six months, alongside a financial fine for professional players ranging between 5 and 10 accounting units, which is approximately 500 to 1000 euros according to the value stated in the regulations. Article 160 of the regulations also indicates that absence or departure may result in an automatic precautionary suspension in accordance with the procedures outlined in the disciplinary system. Ronaldo had departed the Portugal camp following statements by Jorge Jesus, who affirmed that he is the ultimate decision-maker regarding the squad, pointing out that a player's status does not grant them different treatment compared to the rest of the players. The Portuguese Federation officially confirmed Ronaldo's departure from the camp, clarifying that preparations for the matches against Denmark and Norway will continue with the remaining 24 called-up players, without disclosing the reasons behind the national team captain's departure. Meanwhile, Ronaldo published a message via his social media accounts, confirming that he decided to leave the camp after speaking with the president of the Portuguese Federation, adding that he will reveal at the appropriate time the true reasons that prompted him to make this decision.
