The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to postpone the agenda of its regular session and convert it entirely into a general discussion session dedicated to addressing the file of raising the US dollar exchange rate. A brief statement issued by the parliament's media department explained that the legislative body took this decision during the session held today under the chairmanship of the parliament speaker, Haibat al-Halbousi. This emergency shift in parliamentary proceedings coincides with the Central Bank of Iraq announcing, earlier the same day, a package of new adjustments regarding the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the foreign currency, scheduled to take effect starting October 7, 2026. The central bank's decisions included setting the purchase price of the US currency from the Ministry of Finance at 1500 dinars per dollar, while the approved selling price to banks reached 1510 dinars, and the cash selling price designated for the public settled at 1520 dinars for every single dollar.
