OpenAI Halts Sora Development, Shifts to Advanced AI

OpenAI announced it is shutting down development of its Sora video-generation project, less than two years after its launch that transformed digital content creation.

The company said the move is part of a strategic shift toward more advanced technologies, particularly robotics and real-world task automation.

It also highlighted a focus on “agentic” AI systems capable of operating independently.

Technologies behind Sora will be repurposed for robotics, while image tools in ChatGPT will continue unchanged.

Sora had sparked global debate over AI-generated media and its impact on creative industries.
