Oil prices declined on Friday, despite being poised for a monthly gain of around a fifth, as increased supplies flowed through vital sea lanes. This downturn occurred amidst little progress in talks between the United States and Iran. Brent crude futures fell by $1.03 to $88 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.50 to $82.09 per barrel. On a monthly basis, both benchmarks are still expected to rise by approximately 20%. Daniel Hynes, an analyst at ANZ, explained that indications of increased flows through the Strait of Hormuz overshadowed the impact of escalating tensions in the Middle East, thus pushing crude oil prices lower.
