New Details Emerge on Vinicius Jr.'s 2024 Ballon d'Or Loss

Rafa Hermoso, brother of former Spanish international Giani Hermoso, has disclosed new details concerning Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.'s 2024 Ballon d'Or loss. Vinicius Jr., Real Madrid's Brazilian winger, was a strong favourite for the award, which ultimately went to Spain's Rodri, now with Barcelona and formerly of Manchester City. On Instagram, Hermoso stated that Vinicius revealed at a home dinner (with Jennifer present) he was informed of his Ballon d'Or win and had made special preparations to receive it. Rafael quoted: "I will tell you a secret almost no one knows, but I believe I can now recount its details." He added that Vinicius invited them to dinner for an important discussion, confirming assurances of winning the Ballon d'Or. Hermoso noted Vinicius prepared a dedicated spot in his home closet for the trophy. Jennifer was also to receive an award at the ceremony for her football career. He explained: "My sister was supposed to get an award for social contributions. We agreed she'd hand him the Ballon d'Or, and he'd hand her award; then you all know what happened." Real Madrid famously boycotted the 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony, protesting Vinicius Jr.'s omission, especially after strong prior expectations for his victory.
