Nechirvan Barzani invites Pope Leo visit Iraq

 The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, invited Pope Leo Tenth to visit Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani said, via the (X) platform: "I was honored to meet His Holiness Pope Leo Tenth today at the Vatican."

He added: "I reaffirmed that Christians and all religious communities are not only an integral part of the history and identity of the Kurdistan Region, but also continue to shape its future, and that protecting their rights, dignity, and peaceful coexistence in their ancestral homeland will always remain our duty."

He expressed "the deep appreciation of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for the Vatican's moral leadership and its important role in promoting dialogue and coexistence worldwide."

He concluded by saying: "I also recalled with gratitude the historic visit made by the late Pope Francis to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and extended an invitation to His Holiness the Pope to visit Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."
