The Supreme Allied Commander Europe, US General Alexus Grynkewich, emphasized that the alliance has no plans to launch attacks on the Russian region of Kaliningrad, noting that military movements are strictly limited to responding in the event of an attack. Grynkewich stated in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel that the alliance is keen to conduct its military exercises on the eastern flank in a way that is not interpreted as hostile actions toward Russia. His remarks come following warnings issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he affirmed that Moscow would use all available means to defend its territory if subjected to an attack.
