MP Mohammed Farman Shaher Sentenced to 7 Years, Ordered to Pay Over 28 Billion Dinars

The Federal Commission of Integrity (FCI) announced a presence judgment sentencing MP Mohammed Farman Shaher to seven years in prison. The ruling follows his conviction for illicit gain, obliging him to repay the value of the illicit gain and an equivalent fine, with the total exceeding 28 billion Iraqi dinars. The FCI clarified in its statement that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court handed down the verdict against Parliament member Mohammed Farman Shaher Salman Al-Jubouri. The judgment was based on Article (19/Second) of the amended FCI and Illicit Gain Law No. (30 of 2011). It mandated the repayment of 11,795,949,238 Iraqi dinars and 1,729,300 US dollars, along with an equivalent financial penalty, under Article (19/Fourth) of the Law. The total sum ordered reached 28,157,250,476 Iraqi dinars. Additionally, the Court issued a separate ruling sentencing the convict to three years of severe imprisonment for concealment, applying the stricter of the two penalties. The decision also upheld the seizure of his movable and immovable assets and granted the FCI the right to claim compensation for damages once the judgment becomes final.
