MP Aliyah Nassif Sentenced 7 Years, Ordered Repay Over 61 Billion Dinars

The Central Criminal Court for Anti-Corruption on Wednesday sentenced Parliament Member Aliyah Nassif Jassim to seven years in prison for illicit gain. The ruling obligates her to return the value of the illicit gain and pay an equivalent financial fine, totaling over 61 billion Iraqi dinars. The federal integrity commission confirmed the in-absentia verdict was issued based on Article (19/second) of the Amended Integrity Commission and Illicit Gain Law No. (30 of 2011). The court ordered Nassif to return 14,239,590,000 Iraqi dinars and 12,442,500 US dollars, the specified value of the illicit gain. An equivalent financial fine was also imposed, per Article (19/fourth) of the same law. In a separate ruling, the court sentenced Nassif to three years of rigorous imprisonment for concealing crucial information in her financial disclosure form, under Article (19/fifth) of the Commission's Law. The harsher penalty was applied, affirming the seizure of her movable and immovable assets. The verdict also granted the federal integrity commission the right to claim compensation for damages, once the decision becomes final.
