MP Al-Saray Affirms Iraq's Stability and Respect for Foreign Visitors
MP Ali Nahir Al-Saray affirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq is experiencing a state of stability, security, and peaceful coexistence. He pointed out that the exceptional efforts of the security forces in all their branches have eliminated any risks related to armed conflicts or terrorism. He emphasized that foreign nationals and visitors to Iraq enjoy respect and safety from all segments of the Iraqi people, with no concerns regarding their security. This statement came in response to a warning issued earlier by the U.S. Department of State advising against travel to Iraq due to risks of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflicts, crime, health hazards, and the limited ability of the U.S. government to provide emergency services to its citizens in Iraq. The department clarified that the Iraqi government cannot guarantee the safety of American citizens due to the possibility of sudden outbreaks of violence or armed conflicts. It noted that U.S. government employees in Iraq are required to follow strict security protocols, and adjustments to staff numbers may be imposed due to evolving security conditions. Additionally, travel to Iraq requires special permits, and American citizens face significant risks including violence and kidnapping. The warning highlighted the threat of terrorist attacks targeting American individuals and interests, carried out by armed groups, factions, and ISIS using improvised explosive devices and drones, targeting various locations such as hotels, universities, energy infrastructure, airports, and diplomatic facilities. It confirmed that armed groups pose a serious threat to American citizens and international companies operating in Iraq.
