The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced that 86% of Iraq's population currently has access to drinking water. Hussein Jassim Al-Mousawi, Director General of the Water Directorate, stated that an ambitious plan is underway to reduce the water supply deficit, aiming for full coverage in a short period. Al-Mousawi highlighted that strategic projects are being implemented across various provinces, relying on main rivers with multiple capacities according to needs. He mentioned the South Karbala project with a capacity of 16,000 cubic meters per hour, the Ramadi water project with 10,000 cubic meters per hour, and five projects in Diyala including Jalawla, Jadidat Al-Shatt, Khan Bani Saad, Qara Taba, and Western Baqubah. He added that improving water quality is a key objective, especially as river water has shifted from fresh to requiring additional treatment. Emphasizing cooperation with relevant authorities to reduce pollution, he noted that the ministry is among the most affected by this issue.
