Ministry confirms meat and poultry prices will drop soon
The Ministry of Trade announced on Thursday that the prices of meat, poultry, and eggs will decrease next week, while indicating that postponing the collection of customs tariffs contributes to lowering food prices. The General Manager of the General Company for Foodstuffs Trading, Lama Al-Moussawi, explained that what is commonly known to the public is the cancellation of the customs tariff, but the legal formula is the postponement of collecting the tariff, because tariffs are approved by laws, noting that allowing the import of food supplies of calves and cuts, and opening imports for poultry and table eggs to enter the country without customs duties or tax and customs amounts, will significantly contribute to reducing the prices of eggs, poultry materials, and cuts, and reducing calf prices. She added that the tariff was 13.5, and zeroing it will significantly contribute to alleviating calf prices in all governorates without exception, and this will be noticeable and tangible within Al-Taawon Hypermarket. She explained that the price of a tray of eggs at Al-Taawon Hypermarket today is 5500 dinars, and during the coming days prices will drop, confirming that next week the prices of cuts, poultry, and table eggs will be lower than the current price. She continued that the company took measures and adopted them before the decision was issued, relied on the local product, and maintained prices, because simply issuing such a decision leads to breaking and controlling the market, let alone its implementation, as it will contribute even more to alleviating the prices of these materials. She pointed out that the price of a tray of eggs, which is 5500 dinars today, will decrease even more, and the same applies to poultry, as the import of cuts has been opened while maintaining their prices. Al-Moussawi confirmed that meat, chicken, and cuts are all included, pointing out that the citizen will not be harmed, and the role of the Ministry of Trade is to compel the owners of marketing outlets to adopt appropriate prices, and if there is an outlet selling at a higher price, the citizen can buy from other outlets selling at a more suitable price.
