Medical Breakthrough: "Immune Priming" Technology Ends Dependency on Liver Transplant Drugs

 Researchers at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh have achieved a scientific precedent by successfully weaning liver transplant patients off immunosuppressant drugs for over three years. The new technique relies on "immune priming" via donor-derived cell injections a week before surgery, allowing the immune system to accept the new organ without the need for lifelong drugs that cause side effects like diabetes and kidney damage.
