Martyrs Foundation Seeks to Include Beneficiaries in Land Initiative: 130,000 Families in Baghdad Await Housing

The Martyrs Foundation is coordinating with relevant government bodies to ensure its beneficiaries are included in the Million Land Plot Initiative, expected to launch in the coming period. According to an official newspaper, the Head of the Foundation, Abdul-Ilah Al-Naeli, stated that the institution faces multiple financial, administrative, and technical challenges that hinder martyr families from obtaining their legally guaranteed rights. Al-Naeli clarified that the most prominent of these challenges lies in the failure of Baghdad Governorate, the Baghdad Municipality, and the General Directorates of Municipalities to allocate any land plots or housing units for the three beneficiary categories: victims of the former regime, families of martyrs who fought terrorism, and Popular Mobilization Forces martyrs. He further explained that the situation in the governorates is not much better than in the capital's departments, as they do not allocate good land in desirable areas for those covered by the Foundation's law. This occurs despite demands to allocate units within residential complexes under construction and to avoid procrastinating on this vital issue. Al-Naeli revealed that 130,000 martyr families in Baghdad have not yet received any land plot or housing unit, representing a clear failure towards this segment of society that should have the highest priority in all matters. He added that the Foundation has already begun coordinating with relevant government bodies to allocate a percentage of land to its beneficiaries within the aforementioned initiative, especially in Baghdad. He noted that the initiative, launched by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi, affirmed that eligible categories will be given full priority in distribution by specialized technical committees.
