Life Sentences and 15-Year Terms for French Nationals Linked to ISIS
The Iraqi judiciary issued life sentences today for six French nationals and a 15-year prison term for a seventh, all convicted of belonging to the ISIS terrorist organization. The Karkh Criminal Court stated that the rulings were issued in the presence of lawyers and representatives from the French embassy in Iraq, highlighting that the convicted individuals are considered highly dangerous due to their role in threatening national security and destabilizing Iraq and Syria, as well as inciting terrorist acts in other countries. These convicts were part of a group of 47 French nationals handed over from northeast Syria to Iraqi authorities last year, who underwent investigation by the First Karkh Investigative Court before being referred to the competent court following legal procedures.
