Lamine Yamal on Racism: "I Am Black and It Doesn't Bother Me"

Barcelona and Spain national team star, Lamine Yamal, revealed his experience with racism, confirming that being called "black" does not bother him at all, as he is indeed black-skinned. In an anticipated interview for the "Universo Valdano" program, set to air Friday on "Movistar Plus," Yamal stated that he "has been subjected to racism a thousand times. People sometimes practice racism towards you indirectly and sometimes they don't realize it." Regarding previous racist incidents, he added: "For example, the famous video clip from the Santiago Bernabéu stadium where racist words were directed at me and Raphinha, and people were surprised by my reaction, simply because that person who called me black did not bother me, as I am indeed black-skinned." The player concluded: "As for whether that was a right or wrong action, that is another matter, because he said it to insult me. It is a wrong action, but what I will not do while playing a match that people paid money to watch me play, is to get angry at someone who disrespected me."
