Judiciary Absentia Sentences Former Salah al-Din Governor to 7 Years for Illicit Gains

The Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption has issued an absentia sentence of seven years in prison for the former governor of Salah al-Din, Ammar Jaber Khalil Abdul Hamid, on charges of illicit gains. The ruling, based on Articles 19/second and 16/first of the Federal Integrity Commission and Illicit Gains Law No. 30 of 2011, also imposed a substantial fine of 1,728,074,000 Iraqi Dinars, precisely matching the value of the illicit wealth accumulated. The court's decision further obliges the former governor to repay this sum. It stipulates that, upon his apprehension and after serving the prison sentence, he will not be released until both the illicit gains are recovered and the imposed fine is settled. The court also upheld the seizure of all movable and immovable assets belonging to the convicted individual and his wife, and ordered a precautionary seizure on the movable and immovable assets of his son. Furthermore, an arrest warrant has been issued against the former governor under the aforementioned articles of the Integrity Commission Law, with directives for a thorough search for his apprehension. This judgment also grants the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages incurred, once the court's decision becomes final and irreversible.
