Iraqi Prime Minister Affirms Airspace Protection and Security Forces' Control Capability

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed his country's commitment to protecting its airspace, stressing the full capability of security forces to assert control over Iraqi territories. He clarified that war and peace decisions rest solely with the state. This came during a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where Al-Zaidi described the relationship between Iraq and Germany as exceptional and a trusted partnership. Al-Zaidi highlighted Iraq's abundant resources and its need to benefit from German expertise, welcoming German companies to operate in the country, and asserting that Germany has left no negative impact. He also indicated Iraq's openness to Europe and the United States, considering Germany "a meeting point and solution for international disputes," and reiterating Iraq's non-aggressive policy. Regarding the economic file, the Prime Minister explained that Iraq's vision aims to diversify oil export sources, stressing the necessity of Iraq not remaining hostage to a single export corridor. He announced Iraq's intention to export crude oil to Berlin and purchase German equipment and technology. Concerning the Kurdistan Region, Al-Zaidi emphasized that it is an essential part of the Iraqi state, with rights and entitlements guaranteed by the constitution and law. Regarding German prisoners in Iraq, the Prime Minister stated that this matter is subject to a judicial decision, noting that investigations into the targeting of Saudi Arabia are still ongoing and results are being analyzed. In another context, the Prime Minister noted that the "US-Iranian War" had a global impact, pointing out that Germany hosts approximately 300,000 Iraqis, and Berlin has treated them with friendliness, respect, and preserved their dignity.
