Iraqi Foreign Minister Affirms Rejection of Israeli Attacks in Syria, Lebanon

Iraq's Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein on Thursday affirmed the country's rejection and condemnation of the continuous Israeli aggressions in Syria and Lebanon. The minister stressed the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with adhering to international law and the United Nations Charter. Hussein's remarks came during a speech delivered at the annual Coordination Ministerial Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 24, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was attended by OIC Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. Hussein congratulated the OIC Secretary-General on assuming his duties, affirming Iraq's support for the OIC and its commitment to strengthening its role in consolidating Islamic solidarity and supporting Islamic causes, foremost among them the Palestinian issue and Al-Quds Al-Sharif. The minister also indicated Iraq's readiness to host the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC member states, scheduled to be held in Baghdad on October 17 and 18, 2026. He confirmed the logistical and security preparedness to receive the participating delegations. Hussein praised the OIC's efforts in enhancing cooperation among member states in sustainable development, encouraging constructive dialogue, and joint coordination. He reiterated Iraq's stance, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy in addressing outstanding issues, and rejecting military and hostile actions in the Middle East.
