Iraq Investigates Fate of 18 Iraqi Migrants Feared Drowned Off Libyan Coast

Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, the Chargé d'Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, confirmed on Saturday that the embassy is investigating the fate of 18 Iraqi migrants suspected of drowning, who entered Libya illegally. Al-Sahhaf noted the embassy's ongoing efforts, in coordination with Libyan security authorities, health agencies, and the Libyan Red Crescent, to ascertain their fate and verify information indicating their drowning in the Mediterranean Sea, resulting from illegal migration through Libya towards Europe. He added that reports of their drowning have not yet been officially confirmed by specialized authorities in Libya. The embassy is diligently working to scrutinize the information, relying on accuracy and reliability from its official sources, which it has been striving to contact for a month.
