Iran and Oman Discuss Regulating Strait of Hormuz Navigation, Registering Progress in Bilateral Dialogue

Iran and Oman have held discussions to regulate navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, establishing mechanisms for vessel transit through their respective waters. Both nations explored distributing ship traffic between the "Southern Corridor" along Oman's coast and the passage within Iranian territorial waters. These joint efforts aim to enhance safety and smooth navigation in this critical global maritime route. Reports indicate progress in these negotiations. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Tehran hosted several deputy foreign minister-level dialogues on July 24 and 25. Discussions centered on general principles and operational procedures for secure, streamlined navigation through the Strait. The Ministry acknowledged positive talks, but clarified the Strait of Hormuz's current status remains unchanged, with navigation continuing under existing protocols.
