The Iraqi Federal Commission of Integrity (CoI) announced Thursday the formation of specialized and expanded task forces to audit and investigate several significant government contracts across Baghdad and all governorates. This initiative comes as part of enhanced national efforts to combat corruption and safeguard public funds, responding to directives issued by the Prime Minister, which called for an escalation in auditing and investigative activities. The CoI stated that these teams, operating under its direct supervision, will undertake comprehensive investigations into contracts previously concluded by various ministries and government institutions. The primary objective of these probes is to ascertain the extent of compliance with prevailing laws and regulations, and to ensure that public rights and interests were duly considered. The Commission emphasized that the specialized teams will identify those responsible for any infringements or misuse of public funds, in addition to uncovering beneficiaries who profited at the expense of national interests. It further clarified that the newly formed committees will intensify and expedite their procedures, coordinating closely with relevant government institutions to secure necessary documents and data. This collaborative approach aims to integrate oversight efforts, with the ultimate goal of presenting the investigation results urgently to the competent judicial authorities.
