Placing your phone on the charger before sleep is common, but leaving the device under pillows or blankets poses a risk due to heat buildup. Phones and chargers generate heat during charging and require proper ventilation to prevent damage or discomfort from prolonged contact with warm devices. It is recommended to keep the phone, power adapter, and wireless charger in a well-ventilated, uncovered area, away from pillows and blankets, and not to sleep with the phone or charger under your body. Using damaged cables or chargers increases the risk of fire or electric shock, so accessories should be checked and replaced as needed. Activating airplane mode does not solve the heat buildup issue when the phone is placed under coverings. Regarding sleep, exposure to bright light from the phone screen before bedtime negatively affects the biological clock and reduces melatonin secretion, making it harder to fall asleep. No scientific evidence shows that placing a phone near the bed causes cancer, so focus should be on safety advice related to heat, accessories, and excessive screen time. It is advised to place the phone on a hard surface away from bedding before sleeping, activate "Do Not Disturb" mode to minimize interruptions, and ensure the screen is turned off rather than relying solely on electronic settings for protection.
