IAEA: Escalating drone activity near Ukrainian nuclear sites

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Thursday it received information regarding a significant increase in drone activity near Ukrainian nuclear power plant sites this week. The agency explained in a post on "X" that "the flight of more than 160 drones was recorded in the vicinity of South Ukraine, Chernobyl, and Rivne nuclear power plants between May 13 and 14." It added that "while IAEA teams reported no direct impact on nuclear safety at these sites, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expresses grave concern over these military activities near nuclear power plants." According to the agency, Grossi reiterates "the need for full respect for the seven indispensable pillars for ensuring nuclear safety and security during conflict." Grossi called again for maximum restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.
