The head of the Iraqi Supreme Islamic Council, Sheikh Hammam Hamoudi, met with the acting British Embassy chargé d'affaires in Baghdad, Robin Milton, to discuss developments in Iraq and the region, as well as government efforts to enhance stability amid rising tensions and US threats to resume military operations against Iran. The meeting addressed the potential repercussions of any military escalation in the region and efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing the expansion of conflict. Hamoudi warned of the severe consequences of a major military escalation against Iran, noting that it could ignite the entire region, while emphasizing the efforts made by Iraq and neighboring countries to prevent such escalation. He called on Britain to take a more serious stance and activate its diplomatic role to contain tensions, stressing that war has proven ineffective and diplomacy remains the best path to achieving stability. Milton conveyed greetings from British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq, highlighting his country's support for Iraq's path to centralizing weapons under state control and the importance of Iraqi efforts to reduce escalation. He pointed out that the British position has not supported the ongoing war in the region since its inception, noting the damage caused to the energy sector and related infrastructure worldwide, and emphasizing that there are no military solutions to the current crisis.
