Hammoudi Assures US Envoy of Iraq's Sovereignty Project and National Consensus Celebration

Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq, Sheikh Humam Hammoudi, affirmed on Thursday to the US Charge d'Affaires in Iraq, Stephen Fagin, Iraq's commitment to implementing its governmental project aimed at applying full sovereignty, in accordance with the provisions of the Iraqi constitution. This came during Sheikh Hammoudi's reception of US Charge d'Affaires Stephen Fagin, where the two sides discussed developments in bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington. Sheikh Hammoudi's media office issued a statement regarding this meeting. In his remarks, Hammoudi emphasized Iraq's continuation in implementing the government's full sovereignty project, in response to national demand and in accordance with constitutional provisions. He noted that Iraqis will observe "National Consensus Day for Sovereignty Implementation," stressing that the project will encompass all violations of Iraqi sovereignty. He also affirmed Iraq's keenness to establish balanced relations with all parties in a manner that serves its supreme interests. For his part, US Charge d'Affaires Stephen Fagin clarified Washington's pragmatic perspective on Iraq, indicating that achieving the full sovereignty project requires time to complete all its stages.
