Google has issued an urgent warning to organizations regarding potential large-scale cyber attacks, following the detection of a software vulnerability in remote support tools from the American cybersecurity firm BeyondTrust. According to the Google Threat Intelligence Group and Mandiant, successful exploitation of this flaw allows hackers to access system credentials, download unauthorized files, and gain complete control over host devices. A publication on Google’s official blog revealed that a cyber espionage group with suspected ties to China, identified as Armory Castle, had previously exploited this security weakness during August. The vulnerability directly affects the BeyondTrust Remote Support system, an enterprise tool designed to help corporate information technology teams remotely access computers and troubleshoot device malfunctions. Google stressed that public disclosure of the vulnerability could prompt Armory Castle and other malicious actors to launch widespread attacks aligned with their past patterns, urging institutions to take immediate measures by installing security patches or mitigating risks.
