Gold prices remained stable on Tuesday after touching their lowest level in over a month during the previous session. Investors are currently awaiting the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, seeking indications regarding the future path of interest rates. Spot gold saw no change in price, holding at $4300.96 per ounce, having registered its lowest point since August 7 yesterday. Meanwhile, US gold futures fell by 0.3 percent to $4341.10. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to announce its monetary policy decision tomorrow, Wednesday, at 18:00 GMT, following the conclusion of a two-day meeting. Financial markets widely anticipate that Fed policymakers will raise the benchmark interest rate by a quarter percentage point, bringing the range to between 3.75 percent and 4.00 percent. In this context, Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at (IG), explained that "the way Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh frames this hike will be more important for gold than the hike itself." He added that "if he portrays it as the beginning of a meeting-by-meeting tightening cycle, that would be a blow to gold and risk assets in general." Sycamore further noted that "if he instead signals a preference for a more moderate pace, that would be somewhat supportive for risk sentiment and gold." Although gold is generally seen as a hedge against inflation and geopolitical risks, it often loses its appeal when interest rates rise, as such increases elevate the opportunity cost of holding the non-yielding metal.
