Gold Declines Globally Amid Rising US Interest Rate Expectations
Global gold prices declined Tuesday, influenced by investors' growing expectations for sustained US interest rate hikes. The market awaits Federal Reserve officials' statements on future monetary policy direction. Spot gold stabilized at $4344.29 per ounce; US gold futures settled at $4381.80. Chris Weston, Pepperstone's Head of Research, noted investors anticipate signals for a potential October rate hike. He highlighted surging oil prices could escalate inflation expectations, thus pressuring gold. The Federal Reserve raised its key interest rate by 25 basis points last week. Alberto Musalem, President of the St. Louis Fed, suggested further hikes might be essential to contain inflation. In other metal markets, spot silver rose 0.3% to $66.19 per ounce; platinum gained 0.3% to $1792.76; and palladium climbed 0.3% to $1305.10.
