Foreign Minister Affirms Iraq's Stances, Calls for Regional De-escalation

Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed on Monday Iraq's stance supporting the respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its rejection of expanding conflicts. He stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue and political and diplomatic means to de-escalate tensions and achieve security and stability in the region. This came as he headed the Republic of Iraq's delegation participating in the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that Hussein had previously participated, before the main meeting, in the Ministerial Committee meeting on Palestine, in addition to his participation in the consultative meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers. During the consultative meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington casts its shadow over the region's countries and the global economy. He pointed to the necessity of opening channels for dialogue between the concerned parties and reaching peaceful solutions that contribute to avoiding further repercussions and financial and economic crises. Hussein also reiterated, during the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine, Iraq's clear and firm position on the Palestinian issue, which is to support the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. In his address to the 166th ordinary session of the Council, Hussein noted Iraq's keenness, as president of the current Arab Summit session, to enhance Arab solidarity and consensus and unify positions regarding the challenges facing the region. This, he stated, contributes to supporting joint Arab action and achieving the interests of Arab states and peoples.
