European Commission: Israel-Lebanon Agreement a Crucial Step Towards De-escalation
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the framework agreement concluded between Israel and Lebanon, describing it as "a step towards avoiding escalation." In a post, von der Leyen emphasized the importance of this agreement as a crucial move to prevent escalation, stating that "peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved while Lebanon is ablaze." She added that essential subsequent steps include the disarmament of non-state entities and the preservation of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The European Union, she noted, is ready to support the negotiation process aimed at achieving lasting regional stability, including the continued provision of necessary humanitarian aid, highlighting the allocation of 100 million euros for displaced persons.
