Electricity Ministry Issues Guidelines for Connecting Solar Systems to National Grid to Reduce Bills
The Ministry of Electricity announced the completion of guidelines for connecting solar energy systems to the national electrical grid. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry explained that the Cabinet decided in its Tuesday session to eliminate customs duties on imported solar energy systems, supporting the use of renewable energy sources and reducing acquisition costs. The decision followed an official proposal submitted by the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, to the Prime Minister aiming to encourage citizens to install solar systems. The ministry indicated that it prepared a draft of 40 articles regulating the mechanisms for connecting and exchanging electrical energy between citizens and the national grid. Once approved, these guidelines will allow connection using smart meters, contributing to lowering electricity bills according to the amount of exchanged energy. The ministry also contacted the State Council to complete the legal drafting of the guidelines before submitting them to the Cabinet for official approval. These measures are part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance reliance on renewable energy, reduce the load on the national grid, and support the stability and efficiency of the electrical system.
