Coordination Framework Affirms State Monopoly on Arms is Key Pillar for National Protection
The Coordination Framework affirmed on Sunday that restricting weapons to state control is a fundamental pillar for national protection and preserving its achievements. In a statement, the Coordination Framework declared, "On the blessed anniversary of the Kifaei Jihad Fatwa, we recall with great pride and appreciation the historic stance of the Iraqi people, a crucial turning point in Iraq's contemporary history. The nation's sons rose to answer the call of the Supreme Religious Authority, defending Iraq, its people, and holy sites, protecting the region and the world from the threat of terrorism and extremism that threatened not only Iraq but also regional and international security and stability." The statement added that "on this great national occasion, we emphasize that loyalty to the sacrifices of the martyrs necessitates continued efforts to build a strong Iraqi state and its solid constitutional institutions, entrench the rule of law, enhance security and stability, and restrict weapons to the state, considering this an essential pillar for protecting the homeland, preserving its achievements, and ensuring its children's future." The Framework also affirmed its pride in the national role of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) as an official security institution operating within the Iraqi state system and its laws, in defending Iraq and confronting challenges threatening its security and stability. The Coordination Framework also noted that "on the twelfth anniversary of the establishment of the PMF, we reiterate our commitment to supporting, strengthening, and organizing it, safeguarding the rights of its martyrs, wounded, and fighters. The PMF remains a source of pride and a fundamental cornerstone of Iraqi national security, alongside other branches of our heroic armed forces."
