Committee for Monitoring Sectarian Discourse Stresses Firm Action Against Incitement

The Committee for Monitoring Sectarian, Ethnic, and Racial Discourse convened its inaugural meeting today, Tuesday, at the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. During the session, the committee stressed the imperative to deal firmly and strictly with all forms of incitement and sectarian rhetoric, regardless of their source. Attendees included First Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Commander-in-Chief's Office, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, Committee Chairman, and representatives from various security agencies. Al-Shammari, according to a Security Media Cell statement, emphasized the crucial need for comprehensive, fair, and non-discriminatory application of the law. He highlighted the committee's vital role in enhancing security stability, social peace, fostering coexistence, and safeguarding Iraq's national cohesion from divisive rhetoric. He affirmed the judiciary would be the final authority for legal actions and judgments against promoters of such discourse, ensuring justice and protecting citizens' rights under applicable laws. Al-Shammari also stressed organizing the committee's operations through clear role distribution and precise mechanisms for efficient task completion and objective achievement. Lieutenant General Saad Maan, the Committee Chairman, affirmed its commitment to professional and responsible execution of duties, including monitoring rhetoric containing incitement—sectarian, ethnic, or racial—within established legal frameworks. Maan praised the directives from the Commander-in-Chief's Office Director, considering them a foundational framework for the committee's future work to curb hate speech, bolster social security, and strengthen national unity. The committee's formation aligns with governmental efforts to counter inflammatory discourse, promote social peace, and preserve Iraq's national fabric.
