Iranian President Masoud Beheshtian stated on Wednesday that the United States cannot expect to engage in dialogue with Iran as long as it continues to impose sanctions and threats on the country. This statement came after the Pakistani army chief visited Tehran to discuss mediation efforts and regional developments. In remarks to the Financial Times, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed his country's readiness for diplomacy but emphasized that Iran will defend itself. Araqchi added that there is no trust in the declared intentions of the U.S. administration to achieve peace with Iran, stressing that there is no reason to expect progress at this time, particularly given the lack of American willingness to reach an understanding.
