Arrest of Impersonator Claiming Role in Chief Justice's Office and Anti-Corruption Committee
An investigative court in Najaf announced Monday the arrest of an individual impersonating an official from the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council's office and the Prime Minister's Central Anti-Corruption Committee. The suspect sought to extort Najaf Governorate's Director of Real Estate Registration. The specialized judge explained the suspect contacted the director by phone, claiming he was with the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council to sign documents. He alleged the director's name was on arrest warrants, offering to cancel proceedings for money. It was also revealed the suspect previously extorted Najaf International Airport's Director and the governorate's electricity distribution director. The court took legal measures, gathered evidence, arrested the suspect, and recorded his judicial statements for referral to the specialized court for trial according to law.
