Anthropic Suspends Two AI Models Following US Security Order

Anthropic announced Friday the suspension of access to two of its most powerful artificial intelligence models, complying with a US government order citing national security. Just three days post-launch of its Fable 5 model, the company stated it received a government directive prohibiting all foreign nationals, including Anthropic employees, from accessing both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models due to national security implications. The company clarified: "The practical effect of this order is that we must halt both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for all our customers to ensure compliance with the decision." This follows US President Donald Trump's signing last week of an executive order to regulate the AI sector. The order permits government oversight of advanced AI models for cybersecurity, explicitly on a "voluntary basis" only. Anthropic consistently positions itself as a leading laboratory prioritizing ethics and safety in its technological advancements.
