Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the Chinese YLC-8B radar system is a 3D radar developed by the Nanjing Research Institute of Electronic Technology. It is specifically designed to detect low-radar cross-section aircraft like the F-35 and B-2, with detection ranges extending hundreds of kilometers, potentially up to 700 kilometers against specific targets. The JY-27A system is a long-range VHF radar designed to detect stealth objects using wavelengths that are difficult for stealth aircraft to counter. The United States is closely monitoring the potential transfer of these systems to Iran, particularly after recent conflicts exposed weaknesses in the Iranian air defense system. However, military experts emphasize that detecting a stealth fighter does not necessarily equate to shooting it down, as very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) radars might "sense" the presence of a target but often with less precision than required for guiding interceptor missiles.
