Actress Gülsen Tuncer, "Forbidden Love" Star, Dies at 81

Turkish actress Gülsen Tuncer has passed away at 81, after a battle with brain cancer. She concluded an artistic career spanning over five decades, transitioning across theater, cinema, and television. The Film-San artistic institution announced Tuncer's death yesterday, Thursday, noting she previously served as Vice President of its Board of Directors. Her health condition significantly deteriorated in recent days before her passing in the hospital. Gülsen Tuncer gained widespread fame among Arab audiences for her participation in the 2008 series "Aşk-ı Memnu" (Forbidden Love). She portrayed "Arsen Hanim," sister of "Adnan Bey," in a work that achieved massive popular success in the region. Despite her name being associated with this role in the Arab world, the late artist contributed to dozens of diverse artistic works. Her record includes approximately 80 participations in drama and cinema, among them series such as "Üç İstanbul" (Three Istanbuls), "Günümüz Sarayı" (Today's Palace), "Çalıkuşu" (The Wren), and "Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları" (Mrs. Fazilet and Her Daughters). Her last appearance was in the series "Hakim" (The Judge) in 2022. Born in Adana in 1945, Tuncer studied theater at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory of Music, commencing her professional career in 1968. She also worked in directing, composing, songwriting, and voice acting, and taught at Istanbul Technical University. Throughout her journey, she received several awards, including Best Supporting Actress at the Ankara Festival in 1989 and an award from the Antalya Festival in 1991, in addition to honorary tributes and awards in recognition of her artistic contributions.
